The E570 code includes 7 fatty acids, alone or in combination: caprylic acid (food source: palm oil), capric acid (coconut oil), lauric acid (coconut oil), myristic acid (butter or coconut oil), palmitic acid (all fats and oils), stearic acid (all fats and oils) and oleic acid (all fats and oils). These fatty acids are notably used as anti-caking agents in jelly candies or as a coating agent. But they are mainly used as raw material for the production of emulsifiers. No adverse effects related to their use and consumption have been reported to date. During its re-evaluation, the European Food Safety Authority (Efsa) concluded that this additive is safe at the levels of use reported.
